Photo Shoot

Yesterday was quite exciting. By default, I got to be the photographer's assistant! Josh was shooting a Look Book for a jeans company. I started the day out by driving him to the shoot.

I said, "You are probably thinking I am the greatest assistant."

He said, "Why?"

"Because I am driving you to the shoot."

"Most assistants drive their photographers to their shoots."

"Oh," I said.

I was supposed to bring my little speakers and provide music for the models and stylist. I did that for awhile - until my speakers ran out of juice. Whoops! I ended up using the Pandora app because the model liked R&B. I'll admit, I was a bit stumped. "Is Beyonce R&B?" I asked the stylist. I let Pandora take it from there.

Just as the shoot was starting, one of the coordinators asked me to take photos - sort of a "behind the scenes" type of thing. Well, I got a bit carried away. I guess I noticed this when I saw the owner of the company carrying one of Josh's sand bags and a tripod down the stairs to the next location. I was still shooting my little Canon G10.

Here are a few. Maybe when the Look Book comes out, I can show a few more photos...

Tie Dye Reunion

In December, Jennifer Fry and I started to coordinate some sort of tie dye reunion. We had mixed colors with whites and rubber bands when I was 17 years old! I had made tie dye sheets for my twin bed to take to UCSB with me for some groovy dorm decor.

Okay, so it's been 17 years! I am back at it! Last Sunday, Katherine, Jamie, my mom (yes, my mom who hates stains and spills and messes of all sorts) joined me at Jennifer's home for a tie dye festival! Here are a few photos of the tedious process.

I hope you like the results as much as I do! (I've been wearing my new brights, day and night!)

A Perfect Day

Last week I drove up to Santa Barbara to visit Dion and her two adorable children, Ruby and Milo. I have visited several times over the years, and it is so fun to watch Dion with her children. Since Milo is nearly four years old, it is very interesting to sneak a preview of what it's like to be a mother of a toddler. As a labor and delivery nurse, I see babies all the time. Many of my friends have small babies, under the age of one. Playing smash ball and football on the beach and in the back yard are reminders of how fun and unique each stage of growth can be.

Ruby, who just turned one, was quite the communicator. She tells her mom what she wants by gestures and cries as she walks about the house on her sturdy legs. Her legs are adorable, since they are new to walking, and still plump from days of being carried, drinking warm milk and napping. Ruby still wanted to be carried quite a bit. Dion, who is clever at inventing ways to get things done, hoisted Ruby into a hiking back pack in order to cook dinner.

The visit was loads of fun, and I gained a new appreciation for working out with a double stroller! Happy Birthday, Dion! Here's to another fabulous year of yoga, motherhood, and good times with friends!

A boat named Zeus

Someone told me a boat was discovered on the shore at Point Dune in Malibu. Josh and I took an afternoon to explore. Sure enough, there was Zeus, beached on the shore below the cliffs. I took a few photos and then made Josh pose for a few. Sometimes I try to shoot candid photos worthy of a J. Crew catalog. It's a shameless habit, and sometimes the results are satisfying - provided my model is cooperative. Hmmm....if only I could get him to wear a Madras button-down shirt and straw Fedora....

January Heats Up

January is my least favorite month. I am not sure why. All I know is that it feels like it drags on forevvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeerrrrrr. The fabulous weather we have been having makes me think a bit differently about this month. I am starting to love it! I have all ready been to the beach a few times and to the pool. Summer in January? I'll take it, and a sunburn, too!

Swedish Smiles

This is my friend Ellie and her son, Danny. He is almost one. Joy is an afternoon spent with a childhood friend and her child. (Her husband Jan, was also hanging out, but he was also perched behind his new camera.) Just two more days before Ellie returns with Jan and their two sons to Sweden. Safe travels, my dear friends.

Sunday Morning Times

This Sunday, I woke up a little bit earlier than I would have, had I not known that the Sunday Times was waiting at my doorstep. I made coffee, made a space to read, and then just sat there and read the paper. This is part of my New Year's resolution. It's hard for me to sit still. Later, I put the paper in my backpack and walked to the beach. I regret to inform you that I didn't read another word of the paper that day. I am carrying the remains of the paper around in my bag, anxiously awaiting my next day off. The newspaper is a gift to cherish and perish (I mean, recycle).

Culver City Art Openings

Friends, art and questionable art....lots to think about, regarding the art part.

Main Street, Ventura

Oh what a perfect day! A drive to Main Street Ventura, followed by a birthday celebration...

Last Holiday Blast

Okay, before I officially embrace 2011, I wanted to post a few of my favorite photos from the holidays!
