Farewell, So long, Adieu, Goodbye ...

On October 27th, my colleague and friend, Marijke, retired from UCLA Santa Monica. The staff hosted a nice farewell reception for her; it was a special night as she said good-bye to so many nurses, doctors and patients. Marijke plans to spend her days hiking, walking her dogs, painting, cooking and enjoying her family. She is Dutch, and a world traveler. I am sure she will do a great deal of exploring.

Below is the beautiful email she wrote to all of us on the Labor and Delivery unit:

As I sit here and think about what to write to say goodbye to all of you I have worked with, slaved with, laughed with, and sometimes cried with, I can only think of how a special profession we have to take care of people who trust us with their life, their vulnerabilities, to keep seeing the miracle of life which it truly is and I mean it, it is "No Joke."

To live our life is a privilege and an honor and we should make the best of it, keep on dreaming your dreams, write that novel, create a garden, travel, dance, read a good book, or do nothing and look at the sky - it is all there...

Never say Never and enjoy! I know I have and will. Until we meet again, I wish you all the best.

With Love,

Marijke
